Pre-orogenic connection of the foreland domains of the Kaoko–Dom Feliciano–Gariep orogenic system

• Detrital zircon analysis of Neoproterozoic Dom Feliciano Belt supracrustal rocks. Minimum age constraint for sedimentation into Brusque Complex rift basin at ca. 810 Ma. Mesoproterozoic fractions reveal major African sedimentary protosources. detrital record correlates with Kaoko and Porongos Complex. Data show close proximity between the Luis Alves Congo cratons Rodinia breakup. metasedimentary rocks in foreland domains Kaoko–Dom Feliciano–Gariep orogenic system from breakup to amalgamation Gondwana, thus provide ideal subjects investigation mutual pre-orogenic positions rifted margins South American cratonic blocks. U–Pb isotopic dating northern Belt, Brazil, provides new constraints on timing sources along eastern margin Craton. The minimum is constrained by a 811 ± 6 Ma dyke cross-cutting reveals two distinct groups: one ages 2.2–2.0 Ga consistent erosion adjacent Craton, another 2.1–1.8 1.6–1.0 Paleoproterozoic igneous provinces and/or sequences edge distributions match analogous central similarities Gariep suggesting deposition coeval spatially related paleobasins around time absence suggests an intracontinental or passive margin. A third group contains significant proportion 670–560 zircon, Itajaí Basin syn-orogenic This indicates that sediments were partly tectonically interleaved metasediments during late-stage deformation. findings support rifting model formation system. data further indicate Craton was likely Nico Pérez Terrane Kalahari onset Tonian Rodinia.
